Clyst St Mary Primary School visits Devon’s Crealy Great Adventure Park’s Pumpkin Field
Clyst St Mary Primary School children made a very special visit to Devon’s Crealy Great Adventure Park’s pumpkin field on Monday 14 October 2013. Mrs Ellis and her Year 2 class were transported by tractor and trailer to a secret location in the East Devon countryside.
Chris Down, Managing Director of Devon’s Crealy Great Adventure Park took the first part of the morning’s lesson talking the children through the process of planting the seeds, through to the flowering plants and then the transition from flowers to pumpkins. His lesson continued with the care and attention that must be applied to help the pumpkins grow.
Following the short lesson, each child carefully selected their own pumpkin from the field to take away with them, along with the knowledge of pumpkin growing and local farming and harvesting.
Mrs Ellis, class teacher at Clyst St Mary Primary School said: “This has been a fantastic experience for the children and we’d like to thank Chris Down and his Crealy team for this opportunity and we do hope that we can do this again next year.”
Chris Down, Managing Director of Devon’s Crealy Great Adventure Park said: “It is a pleasure to have the children of Clyst St Mary Primary School visit our pumpkin field. We feel it is important for children to learn about their local area and its farming community as well as the exciting things that happen at Devon’s Crealy Great Adventure Park around Halloween.”
