Visitors to the Devon County Show this week (22 to 24 May 2014) will be offered free sight screenings by Vision Express, as four stores from across the county join forces to drive home the importance of eye health.

Representatives from Sidmouth, Teignmouth, Axminster and Exeter Vision Express stores will be on hand at stand 161 Avenue B to help event attendees undergo a short test, with special promotions available on the exclusive Joules and Barbour ranges.

These local Vision Express stores are manning a pitch at the Devon County Show as part of a national drive by the retailer to encourage people to take sight seriously. The campaign, called Vision Taken Seriously, follows research signalling a worsening outlook for the nation’s eye health, despite sight loss being one of the public’s biggest fears.

Sight screenings are free to all visitors at the Devon County Show, and take approximately ten minutes.

Vision Express regional manager Claire Wilson said: “We’re thrilled to be part of such a significant event in the county’s calendar and we want to get as many people along to our stand as possible. While the Show promises to be lots of fun, the message behind our presence is serious – that an eye test is crucial for detecting a whole range of health conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol, as well as potential vision issues.

"Research shows that many people put off having an eye test due to cost concern, so we hope our free screenings will encourage visitors to put a visit to the optician at the top of their to-do list.”

Vision Express offers an in-store eye examination to best practice guidelines of the College of Optometrists (COO), with each Vision Express optometrist being a qualified eye health professional. For more information visit: www.visionexpress.com
