Residents' parking review underway in Exeter
A consultation is underway on residents' parking in Exeter.
Devon County Council has drawn up the plans for the Burnthouse Lane, Rifford Road, Heavitree, Polsloe and Elizabeth Avenue areas in response to requests from local residents affected by commuter parking.
Residents have until Friday 17 June to comment on the current proposals which are based on feedback from almost 2,000 responses during two previous rounds of consultation last year. Discussions have also been held with local members, and the Exeter Highways and Traffic Orders Committee (HATOC) considered the plans last month.
The scheme aims to ensure that residents have priority over parking within their area through the introduction or extension of six residents parking zones. These are:
Elizabeth Avenue area – 10am to 5pm Monday to Friday: New zone to include roads around Margaret Road, Stoke Hill and Elizabeth Avenue;
Newtown area - At all times: Extension of existing zone to include all of Jesmond Road;
Regents Park area – 10am to 4pm Monday to Friday: Extension of existing zone to include roads around Park Road, Ladysmith Road, South Lawn Terrace and Fore Street;
Bovemoors Lane area – 10am to 5pm Monday to Friday: Extension to include roads around Sivell Place, Whipton Lane, Victor Street and St Loyes Terrace;
Rifford Road area – 10am to 5pm Monday to Friday: New zone to include roads around Rifford Road;
Burnthouse Lane area – 10am to 5pm Monday to Friday: New zone to include roads around Burnthouse Lane.
Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council Cabinet Member for Highway Management, said: “The proposals aim to meet local needs while also striking a balance with local schools, businesses and other places of employment. It’s important that we hear the views of everyone who might be affected on whether they support or oppose the proposals, even if you have already taken part in previous consultations.”
Councillor Jill Owen, Chairman of the Exeter HATOC, said: “The whole purpose of these proposals is to improve parking possibilities for residents who are affected at the moment by commuter parking. A great deal of hard work has gone into the new proposed schemes and as much as possible they should reflect what residents themselves have said. I hope that anyone with views for or against will respond to this final request.”
The decision on which roads will be included in the plans will be finalised after the response to this public consultation have been considered.
