There’s still time to take advantage of flooding grants but people need to hurry as the deadline is 31 March.

Exeter residents and businesses who experienced flooding between 1 December 2013 and 31 March 2014 can apply for grants of up to £5,000 to install flood resistance measures to their property.

The government recently extended the deadline for the Repair and Renew Grant scheme. The scheme covers homes and businesses where flood water entered the property, and can be used to install measures such as flood barriers, airbrick covers and non-return valves to help prevent flooding. The Council is administering the scheme for Exeter on behalf of the government.

The new Repair and Renew Grant deadlines are:

  • Grant applications made to the Council by 31 March
  • Resistance measures to be installed and paid for by 31 May
  • ECC to have carried out necessary inspections and issued all grant payments by 30 June

So far over 40 grants totalling £150,000 have been approved and 27 homes and businesses have already had flood prevention measures installed.

To help cover the cost of repairs to damaged community flood defences and assets, the City Council has also successfully applied for £160,000 of funding from government agencies.
