Prayers to be said for community in mourning
Prayers will be said this weekend for an Exeter community in mourning over the death of a 12-year-old boy.
The youngster died after a collision with a lorry on Topsham Road, close to Countess Wear roundabout on Thursday.
He was taken to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The lorry driver was uninjured.
The road was closed for five hours while serious collision investigators carried out an examination of the scene.
Rev Juliet Horwood, Curate for the Mission Community, St Luke's, Countess Wear, said her thoughts were with those affected by the tragedy.
She told The Exeter Daily: "The death of a child in such awful circumstances is a tragedy for the family and community who knew him. Our hearts go out to all involved.
"In our services on Sunday we will say a prayer for all those involved but if we were asked by the family to do something special we would facilitate that.
"We as a church community are available and would be happy to offer support at any time."
Police are carrying out an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision and are appealing for any witnesses to contact them on 101, quoting log 480 of 28 August 2014.
