Tickets are launched today for the world’s largest festival of public science talks, which will see more than 30 scientists take to the stage in venues across Exeter.

The Schools 48 Hour Film Challenge UK is back, calling on schools in the region to get involved and compete nationally.

Exciting new library reading programme for under 4s aims to boost children’s love of books

An exciting new early years reading programme with stickers to collect has been launched in libraries across Devon and Torbay, aiming to inspire a lifelong love of reading.

Libro’s Friends is an extension of Libraries Unlimited’s hugely successful The Secret Book Quest, which was launched in 2021.

Both programmes have been created as part of Libraries Unlimited’s drive to boost the reading skills of children in the county.

After a couple of years away from Exeter’s Barnfield Theatre, Exeter Scout and Guide Gang Show will make a welcome return to its natural home for their 2024 show.

Taking place from Wednesday 10th to Saturday 13th April, Exeter Gang Show 2024 is packed full of popular songs, dance, comedy and laugh out loud sketches performed by Scouts and Guides from across Exeter and the local area.

The cast of almost 70 Cubs, Brownies, Scouts, Guides, Explorers, Rangers and their Leaders are coming together to raise the roof and raise a smile of audiences throughout the week.

Princesshay has announced Exeter Leukaemia Fund as its charity of the year for 2024/25. Exeter Leukaemia Fund (ELF) provides vital support to patients with blood cancer and other disorders, who attend the Haematology Centre at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital (RD&E).

ELF is the leading patient-led support organisation for families affected by blood cancer in the South West. Their vision is that every family affected by blood cancer or a blood disorder in the region receives compassionate, tailored support.

City charity gears up for homelessness backyard sleep out

Local people are gearing up for a fundraising sleep out next week, organised by an Exeter-based homelessness charity.

St Petrock’s is inviting people to sleep out under the stars next Friday (12 April), to help raise money for its work with rough sleepers.

Around one thousand pounds has already been raised by the energetic participants of St Petrock’s Big Night Out who are sleeping rough in a variety of ways, including in gardens, sheds or on open moorland. Some with friends and family, others with colleagues or alone.

A prestigious new award, ‘Devon Wine of the Year’, has been launched by the Food Drink Devon Awards to celebrate the very best wine the county produces, from its plethora of high calibre vineyards and wineries.

Entries are open to all Devon-based producers, both members and non-members of the organisation, with entries closing on Monday 22nd April.
