A unique, new 75-bedroom student accommodation complex in the heart of Exeter’s Mont Le Grand Conservation Area is complete.

The £5.7 million project saw Midas Construction, part of the Midas Group, transform the historic former Heavitree Hospital building, while retaining and reusing the redbrick and stone façade dating back to 1913 within the new development.

Now known as Atlas House, the new development is perfectly located, across the road from the St Luke's campus and just over a mile away from the main Exeter campus, and offers students a mix of high-quality accommodation and communal facilities.

Mike Borkowski, Business Development Director at Midas Construction, said: “Top-quality student accommodation is an essential part of today’s student experience and we are proud to mark the completion of this new building for Exeter’s student population with our project partners.”

Midas undertook the refurbishment of Atlas House for expanding property company Atlas Land, who are on the lookout for other student, as well as other residential-led, development opportunities in the South West. Atlas Land is currently delivering a 225 bedroom student accommodation scheme in Bristol, which is due to complete in June 2020 in time for the September 2020 intake.

Alan Chaytor, Chief Executive, said: “We are keen to develop our business further in the South West and partner with good quality contractors such as Midas to deliver high quality purpose built residential accommodation for the student or private rented sector.”

Atlas House is within the Mont Le Grand Conservation Area and adjacent to the Grade II listed Almshouses. The completed, four-storey development includes cluster bedrooms, studio flats and Disability Discrimation Act (DDA) compliant studio apartments of multiple shapes and sizes. All rooms are en-suite and have a study area, while the cluster suites share a kitchen and communal area. The building also includes a laundry and secure bicycle storage, as well as security features such as an intercom entry system and CCTV.

Atlas House will be managed by national student accommodation provider CRM-Students. Further details of the building and its amenities can be found at CRM-Students website. https://www.crm-students.com/student-accommodation/exeter/atlas-house-exeter/
