Exeter breastfeeding group receives national accolade
Nappuccino in Exeter has been named one of the most breastfeeding-supportive places in the UK.
The regular event, held at The Baby Room at Ladysmith Infant School, offers breastfeeding support, advice and encouragement to mums who meet there on a twice-weekly basis.
It has now been nationally recognised for its services to breastfeeding mums in global brand Lansinoh’s Feed With Confidence Awards 2019, after being universally nominated for being so active in their support of new mums.
One mum said: “Nappuccino were the ones who kept me breastfeeding because they made me feel so comfortable doing it in public. When I go there I feel fully confident feeding in front of others, in a safe space where women support other women throughout their time breastfeeding. It’s been so important for me and many other new mums in Exeter.”
People were invited to nominate places and people across the UK that provide an encouraging, safe and friendly environment where women feel empowered to breastfeed.
Jen Harris, founder of Exeter Babies and Nappuccino, said: “Mums should be able to breastfeed their babies wherever, whenever they want. The fact that so many mums still don’t feel able to is a huge wake up call for us all to do better in making them feel more comfortable, supported and empowered to breastfeed their babies in public. We’re proud to be leading the way, and delighted to be recognised for our services to breastfeeding mums.”
Nappuccino is on every Wednesday 9.30am – 2.30pm, and every Friday, 12-2.30pm and offers everything from breastfeeding support, cloth nappy info, a sling library, bra fitting, hypnobirthing and post-natal recovery expertise.
The awards, now in their third year, were started by Lansinoh to try and improve UK breastfeeding rates, which remain some of the lowest in the world*. Lisa Craven, UK marketing manager at Lansinoh, explains: “In 2020, too many new mums still don’t feel confident enough to breastfeed in public, and avoid doing so in case they receive negative reactions.
“Our Feed With Confidence Awards highlight the people and places making a real difference, giving more women the confidence to try breastfeeding and to do it for longer. The nominations for Nappuccino really stood out.”
Lansinoh’s Feed With Confidence Awards received over 800 nominations in 2019, across two categories:
- Feed With Confidence Venue – places where mums can breastfeed in comfort, feeling supported and respected.
- Feed With Confidence Supporter – friends or family members who have helped women overcome breastfeeding hurdles.
Trusted for more than 35 years and founded by a breastfeeding mum, Lansinoh has become the ‘go to’ brand for breastfeeding products across the world, trusted by both mums and healthcare professionals to provide safe, effective breastfeeding support and products.
