Check Trade Cup: Exeter City 2-0 Rovers

Rovers had to concede a 2-0 defeat to Exeter City in their Group D match. Both sides have been guaranteed a place in the next round but it was a match which would prove who would be in the first position. Moreover, the winner of the match would have a home advantage in round two of the competition.

Exeter took charge of the first half with six new debuts. Archie Collins, Will Dean and Matt Jay were all in the starting line up. After an uneventful first ten minutes, a left cross from Archie Collins was met by a forceful header from Dara O'Shea. It seemed as if it was headed for the net but Adam Smith denied O'Shea an opening goal.

During the second half, Jonathan Forte took full advantage of  Chiodzie Ogbene's cross and the first goal was made by the Grecians. The goal sparked a change on the bench when Walker was replaced by Cameron Hargreaves who looked promising to stop Exeter from scoring another goal.

A late substitute: Joel Randall added another goal ending the match with a 2-0 against the Bristol Rovers.

Exeter Promising Players

When Manager Darell Clarke selected his first X1 he had something in his mind. The team was made up of both development players and U18 players. Zain Walker who is only 16 was part of the starting squad behind Gavin Reilly and Alex Jakubiak.

When the match came to an end at St James Park there were six graduates from the Youth Academy who were part of the match. This further proved that Exeter's Youth  Academy is the best in Westcountry.

On October 31, Exeter further proved that they have a team of some of the best young players after a 3-2 with against Plymouth Argyle. It was a good match seeing Lewis Wilson finishing the first half with a successful hat-trick. He scored the opening goal in only six minutes.

The Grecians were able to proceed to the Stevenage round.

Joel Randall made an impression during his debut that even Matt Taylor took notice and he was quite impressed. Randall has been out on loan at Tiverton but he had a rough time breaking through. However,r with his recent debut with the Rovers, Taylor believes it will give him the much-needed confidence.

Although the young players made an impressive debut Taylor remarked that most of them would not be part of the match against Northampton Town in League Two clash. He is looking to grow the young players so that they become productive. The League Two is a physical game of which most of the players cannot take the heat.

We just have to wait and see what these youngsters have in store for Exeter. But one thing is for sure City is destined for greatness.
