Firefighters extinguished a fire at a block of public toilets in Exmouth today (30 August).

Two fire appliances from Exmouth were mobilised after Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service received reports of smoke coming from a block of toilets in Jarvis Close, shortly after 12.30pm.

Upon arrival crews donned breathing apparatus and entered the building to put the fire out with one hose reel jet.

Firefighters then checked the building with a thermal imaging camera, and used positive pressure ventilation to clear the building of smoke.

East Devon District Council were requested to attend to close the toilet block until repairs have been made.

The cause of the fire was deliberate.
