The performance-driven revival of Bach's large corpus of vocal and instrumental music over the last century has opened our eyes and ears as performers and listeners; but how can our knowledge, appreciation and understanding of it be used to open the door to Bach for future generations? Margaret Steinitz will examine Bach's own working environment and contrast it with the challenges that face music societies working today.
