Crowdcube has used its own platform to raise £1.5 million in just three days from 259 investors. Existing investors met the initial funding target of £250,000 within the first five hours of the pitch going live, making it the fastest equity funding on a crowdfunding website anywhere in the world. British America's Cup sailor Andrew Simpson dies in training accident

The sailing world was in shock today after news that British Olympic medallist and Dorset resident Andrew Simpson, one of the Artemis Racing crewmembers due to take part in the 2013 America's Cup this summer, has died following a tragic accident during training.

According to local news sources, rescuers pulled 12 sailors from the water. Simpson was taken on an Artemis support boat to the St Francis Yacht Club, where a team paramedic performed CPR. Simpson was pronounced dead a short time after he arrived onshore.

New top team to lead City Council

Exeter City Council's Chief Executive, Philip Bostock, will be retiring this summer after 16 years at the helm. A new top team will be taking the city forward with two new senior posts in place of the current three.

Wood provides heat for South West Forestry Commission

The Forestry Commission in the South West has taken the lead in promoting green energy and best practice by installing a wood pellet boiler to heat its new offices in Kennford.

Exeter-based renewables company Fair Energy has installed a new biomass heating system to provide heat for the woodland organisation’s new regional office. The organisation’s regional branch recently relocated to a refurbished site in Haldon Forest Park, and is now saving an estimated 6 tonnes in carbon emissions each year by replacing electric storage heaters.
