Bonfires are not an excuse to burn household rubbish, warns Environment Agency. The Environment Agency is asking people who are planning on having a bonfire to make sure that they only burn small amounts of paper, leaves, untreated wood and cardboard and the waste is kept securely before being burned. Only clean, non-commercial waste should be burned like paper, untreated wood and cardboard. More heavy rain is forecast for Devon this evening and throughout the weekend, and road users are being urged to take extra care on the county’s roads.

Yellow Severe Weather Warnings have been issued by the Met Office for further persistent downpours tonight and over the weekend.

Heavy rain is forecast from 9pm tonight until 9am tomorrow morning with the possibility of up to 35mm in some places before it clears. The same is expected from 9pm on Saturday evening until 3pm on Sunday afternoon.

Two University of Exeter scientists are cycling to Glasgow for the COP26 UN climate change conference.

Professors Angela Gallego-Sala and Stephen Sitch set off from Bristol on Tuesday and aim to arrive in Glasgow the following week on Tuesday morning (2 November).

Parents can now book covid-19 vaccinations online for their 12-15 year old children with appointments available as soon as this weekend, the NHS has announced.
