Protect you and your baby by having the vaccine: An appeal to pregnant women

Pregnant women are being reassured by the NHS in Devon that having the COVID-19 vaccination is the best and safest way to protect them and their baby from the serious complications that can be caused by the virus.

Pregnant women with COVID-19 have a higher risk of intensive care admission than women of the same age who are not pregnant.

The risk of serious complications is low but a recent study of more than 340,000 births in England by the National Maternal and Perinatal Outcomes Audit found:

Owner of ChipsAway Exeter, Brandon Akerman has been named as one of Bodyshop Magazine’s ‘30 under 30 Rising Stars of 2021’.

Entrepreneur Brandon, joined the ChipsAway network in September 2020, aged just 21. Within the space of only six months Brandon had developed his mobile car body repair business into a thriving ChipsAway Car Care Centre workshop, taking on an employee to help him achieve his aspirations for the future.

£45,000 grants available to support community cohesion and growth

Charities and community groups in the South and South West of England are invited to apply for a share of £45,000 funding.

Sovereign Housing Association, working with not-for-profit digital fundraising platform The Good Exchange, has grants available for community projects that focus on community cohesion and growth within three miles of its homes.

In Sovereign’s last round of community funding, All Yours Period Boxes received £1,759, which was used towards making and distributing period boxes to people who cannot afford or access sanitary products in the local area....

Three Devon primary schools will be starting their new academic year with the introduction of permanent changes to the environment outside of their school gates.

From tomorrow (Wednesday 8 September), Bradley Barton Primary in Newton Abbot, Ladysmith Primary in Exeter and Whipton Barton Federation in Exeter, will adopt the “School Streets” measures to restrict traffic outside the schools during drop off and pick up times.

Rise of Raducanu set to inspire a new tennis generation in Exeter

The rise of the teenage tennis sensation Emma Raducanu may inspire youngsters in Exeter to pick up a racket and take advantage of the city’s free tennis facilities.

Leading charities have linked with Tesco to launch a campaign to raise much-needed funds to help people in Devon lead healthier lives.

Tesco stores across Devon are coming together to support the Tesco Health Charity Partnership and raise money for Cancer Research UK, the British Heart Foundation and Diabetes UK from 13-26 September.

Tesco customers can make a donation by rounding up the amount they spend in stores to the nearest £1 at self-service checkouts. All funds raised will go directly to the three charities, which are part of the ‘Helping you to live healthier’...

Hospitals across Devon are working together to address the significant challenges they are facing with rising demand for care across routine, urgent and emergency services.
