Tesco customers in Devon taking part in a new campaign to provide meals to children living in food insecurity have enabled thousands of meals to be donated.

In the past three weeks, the Devon Tesco stores have given a donation for every vegetable and piece of fruit across all its stores.

It has been part of the Buy One to Help a Child scheme to provide food that FareShare will redistribute to children’s charities.

Devon has the opportunity to become the heart of a ‘Southwest Powerhouse’ with communities creating their own power, selling what they don’t need and then reinvesting proceeds into local projects such as giving local homes a net-zero retrofit.

This would create thousands of jobs and help ensure that the county achieves the goal enshrined in its Carbon Plan, to become Net-Zero by 2050 at the latest.

Students and other renters warned to be wary of paying 'banned' fees

Private tenants such as students looking for new digs ahead of the autumn semester are being warned not to get caught out by costly rental fees which have now been banned.

The warning, from the Heart of the Southwest Trading Standards Service, which covers Devon, Plymouth, Somerset, and Torbay, follows a recent audit carried out by the Service, of 81 lettings agents across the service area.

The Environment Agency have launched a 12-month pilot with Hello Lamp post to give residents and visitors to Exmouth the opportunity to have a ‘conversation’ with the Exmouth Tidal Defence Scheme. Bike crime down by 19% despite record boom in bicycle sales

Reported bicycle thefts fell by nearly 19% in the second quarter of this year compared to the same period in 2019, according to the latest police crime figures.

The falling rate of bike crime comes despite a record boom in bicycle sales during the UK’s successive lockdowns.

The total number of bicycle thefts between April and June 2021 came in at 17,940, almost 19% lower than during the same period in 2019, when reported thefts clocked in at 22,140.
