Pop-up cycle route to become permanent

A number of temporary road layouts which helped form a pop-up cycle route in Exeter are to be made permanent after receiving backing from councillors.

The changes at Dryden Road, Wonford Road, Ludwell Lane and Magdalen Road were introduced last year, part of emergency transport measures to provide safer routes for higher numbers of pedestrians and cyclists while capacity on public transport was significantly reduced by social distancing.

Leading housebuilders Barratt and David Wilson Homes have tripled donations made earlier in the year to 5 local children's charities. The additional £15,000 donation brings the total donations made to £20,000.

The Tour of Britain will be making a welcome return to Devon in September with a gruelling 115-mile route awaiting some of the world's top cyclists.

Devon will host Stage Two of the 2021 Tour of Britain on Monday 6 September, starting in the new town of Sherford and finishing in Exeter.

Exeter Airport resumes Majorca holidays with TUI

Exeter Airport today celebrates the return of TUI holidays to the Balearic Islands, with the first TUI flight of the Summer 2021 season departing for Majorca (Palma).

Footfall at Exeter Airport is predicted to increase this Summer along with the demand for covid testing as ‘Freedom Day’ heralds the easing of travel restrictions to amber listed countries.

PEOPLE in the South West are being urged to get on their bikes for Cancer Research UK and raise money for a wheelie great cause.

People of all ages and abilities – from seasoned cyclists to recent converts – are being encouraged to sign up now for the Cycle 300 challenge to help the charity continue its life-saving mission.

Diabetes UK looking for swimmers in Devon to make a splash in charity challenge

People from Devon are being invited to dive into a sponsored swimming challenge and raise vital funds for Diabetes UK.

Swim22 runs between 22 July and 22 October and involves swimming a total of 22 miles – the equivalent of crossing the English Channel. Participants can take on the challenge at their own pace, accumulating the miles across the course of the 12 weeks.

All funds raised will go towards Diabetes UK’s work in funding life-saving research and making sure everyone living with diabetes gets the care and support they need.
