Most people seem to agree that Exmouth’s Orcombe Point, the start of the Word Heritage Coast, could do with a café. It used to have one and people want something there again where they can get a drink and a bite to eat.

Local Councillor, Mark Williamson, is right behind the idea and is inviting people to come up with their ideas for what they want to happen at Orcombe Point be it a café kiosk or something else for the longer term and what type of food and drink people would like. Exmouth man's car targeted by vandals

Police are appealing for information after an Exmouth man’s vehicle was targeted by vandals five times in four months.

The blue VW Golf has been persistently targeted since November with more than £7,000 damage scratched into the paintwork.

The vehicle was parked in various locations in the Morton Road and St Andrews Road areas when the incidents happened.

The offences began on Sunday 27 November last year when all of the car’s panels were scratched during the daytime in Morton Road. Offensive words were also etched on the bonnet.

New prostate cancer diagnostic service at Exmouth

Patients in East Devon can now benefit from better access to diagnostic facilities for prostate cancer at Exmouth Community Hospital thanks to a fundraising mission of one man.

Sixty-five year old Geoff Fidler, from Exeter, has raised almost £47,000 for the Urology Team from the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust to part-fund the purchase of an ultrasound scanner used to diagnose prostate cancer. The additional cost of the £100k scanner was funded thanks to a donation from Devon charity the Chestnut appeal.

Exmouth's new recycling service starts tomorrow

Exmouth residents will soon be able to recycle up to as much as 60% of their household waste for weekly collection when a new improved recycling service starts in the town from Thursday (February 16.)

East Devon District Council has extended the number of items that households can now collect to include cardboard, mixed plastics, cartons/Tetra Paks and small electrical items.

The new additions mean householders are able to recycle more, throw away less rubbish and put East Devon at the very forefront of environmental sustainability.

Warning after Exmouth fire started by phone charger

A phone charger started a fire which caused significant damage to an Exmouth teenager’s bedroom in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Fire crews were called to St Margaret’s View at 1.19am and extinguished the fire in a first floor bedroom using a hose reel jet. The room was damaged by fire, heat and smoke.

The girl had seen a fire in the corner of the room and woke the rest of the family. Her mother closed the door of the bedroom and the family were able to leave the house.

Exmouth residents reminded to check waste collections

Exmouth households who are receiving a new recycling and waste collection service from February 16, are being reminded to read the information they have been sent as they may have an extra one-off waste collection on Saturday February 11.

Residents will have been alerted to the extra waste collection by a letter they received from East Devon District Council in late January. The council is asking residents to read the information carefully as it will tell them if their household will receive this additional waste collection. Antique jewellery taken in Exmouth burglary

Police seeking witnesses after a large amount of jewellery was taken from an Exmouth home.

Offenders got inside the property in Valley Way sometime between 10.30am on Tuesday 24 January and 12.30pm on Thursday 26 January.

They made an untidy search of the premises before stealing around 40 items of jewellery including some antique items of huge sentimental value.

Among the items stolen were a 100-year-old 18ct gold ring with diamonds and an 18ct pearl and amethyst ring which is around 70-years-old, plus a very old garnet bracelet and set of garnet earrings.
