Exmouth teenager wins regional sport award

Seventeen-year-old Yasmin Nelmes has been named Devon’s Satellite Club Participant of the Year in recognition of her outstanding commitment to taking part in community sport.

The award ceremony will take place on 8th Sept at Exmouth Community College sports hall, where Yasmin will be presented with her award by a representative from the national Sport England team.

The finishing touches have been made to the the roof at The Point just 10 weeks from the start of construction.

The Point apartments stand slightly apart from the rest of the development at Exmouth Quay and has a unique modernist design developed by GJR architects.

Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service remind everyone that buying cheap, unsafe chargers may put their home and loved ones at risk.

Exmouth man aims to raise £50k to mark 50 years with type 1 diabetes

Colin Rowland, 58, of Exmouth is undertaking a series of impressive fundraising challenges over the coming months to raise funds for the type 1 diabetes charity JDRF.

Colin is taking on the challenges this year especially as 2016 is his 50th diaversary – 50 years since he was diagnosed with the autoimmune condition type 1 diabetes.

Officers from East Devon District Council’s StreetScene service have had a busy past few weeks helping find homes for 17 life-sized dinosaur models, previously roaming free in Exmouth.

Firefighters rescue woman trapped under car

Firefighters have rescued a woman who became trapped under a car in Exmouth.

Crews were called to Brixington Lane in the town at 6.45pm yesterday.

Fire engines from Exmouth, along with a heavy rescue vehicle from Middlemoor were sent to an incident where a lady was trapped underneath a car by her shoulder and arm.

The crews used airbags, chocks and a tirfor winch to lift the vehicle off the casualty who was then taken to Derriford Hospital.

East Devon beach huts and sites all let

East Devon District Council has reported that all of its 237 beach huts, 20 beach chalets and 241 beach hut sites at Beer, Seaton West, Seaton East, Budleigh Salterton, Exmouth and are now fully let for the 2016/2017 season.

Anyone interested in the possibility of renting a hut, chalet or site in 2017/2018 can join one of the waiting lists, which they can do by contacting the council’s Customer Service Centre on 01395 516551 or by email via csc@eastdevon.gov.uk giving their full name, address and telephone number. A playday event run by East Devon’s StreetScene team in Exmouth’s Phear Park in support of National Playday, has proved immensely popular with the local community.

The council-run playday, which took place on August 3, received plenty of support from a number of East Devon services, including the Recycling and Waste team, as well as local organisations such as Exmouth and District Children’s Centre, Exmouth in Bloom and Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service.
