This year’s procession will be bigger and better than last year with over 60 entries! Participants will be attending from all over Devon – Totnes, Torbay, South Brent, Tiverton, Chulmleigh and Axminster to name a few as well as many local Exmouth & East Devon entries. Appeal following theft of marine equipment

Police in Exmouth are appealing for information following the theft of marine equipment.

The theft occurred sometime between Sunday 30th August and Saturday 3rd October when thieves removed a padlock from a boat moored in the river Exe estuary at Exmouth and stole equipment including a Honda outboard engine, an inflatable doughnut ring and fishing equipment, valued at £900.

On Saturday 26 September, 75 enthusiastic young people picked up cans of spray paint to help local artist Ryan Stuart create a vibrant example of street art on a new graffiti wall at Phear Park in Exmouth as part of a joint East Devon District Council and Exmouth Town Council community initiative.

Community secure use of Rolle College site

People in Exmouth will soon be able to access and use part of the town’s former Rolle College site, it was revealed yesterday.

Community benefit society Rolle Exmouth Limited (REL) has signed a licence with the owners of the site, Plymouth University, on behalf of the Exmouth community, granting them the right to use the Owen Building.

The group is describing it as a ‘major step’ in reinvigorating the site, empty since the University relocated its Faculty of Arts and Education in 2008.

Family fun down at the farm

Families are invited to get stuck in at Lower Halsdon Farm, near Exmouth, on Sunday 27 September. From 10am until 3pm, children will be given the chance to connect with nature and the outdoors as work on hedge-centric tasks including cutting back and laying with loppers and saws. As well as learning new skills, they will build confidence and explore aspects of countryside management in an informal and relaxed way. People are being urged to have their say in what is being described as a ‘key moment’ for the future of Exmouth and the surrounding area.

Plymouth University is set to unveil outline plans for the Rolle College site in a two-day planning consultation in the town, being held at Ocean on the Esplanade, on Friday October 2 and Saturday October 3. East Devon District Council proudly flew the Red Ensign at exactly 10am on Thursday 3 September at Knowle, Sidmouth, in commemoration of Merchant Navy Day, to help raise awareness of the UK’s ongoing dependence on Merchant Navy seafarers.

Police investigate arson at public toilets

Police are investigating an arson attack which caused £500 damage to public toilets in Exmouth.

The fire was started in the toilets in Jarvis Close sometime between 8pm and 8.45pm on Sunday 30 August.

A toilet was damaged after the seat was set alight and smoke damage was caused within the East Devon District Council owned building.

Police are appealing for information and would like to hear from anyone who saw any suspicious activity at the time of the offence.

East Devon recycling collection trial start dates

As two East Devon communities prepare for trials to begin this month (September) to recycle more items for kerbside collections every week, district council officers were in Exmouth on Saturday to give householders top tips on how they can reduce their waste.

Recycling officers held a road show at the Imperial Recreation Ground in the town to give advice and help residents reduce, reuse and recycle.

Investigative work set to start on Exmouth tidal defence study

Investigative work to review the options for creating new flood defences in Exmouth is expected to start from Monday September 7.

The work is being carried out as part of the Exmouth Tidal Defence Study.

East Devon District Council (EDDC) is working with the Environment Agency on this project, which is reviewing the options to upgrade Exmouth’s sea and estuary defences. The project aims to protect the estuary frontage, parts of the seafront and more than 1,000 properties in the town.
