Summer holiday family fun at A la Ronde

Looking for things for the kids to do this summer holiday? At A la Ronde, near Exmouth, there is a family activity on offer every day.

They can join in the Coastal Quiz Trail from Saturday 18 July until Sunday 6 September. All they need to do is follow the map to find the answer to all the questions and win a prize. The coastal theme of the quiz ties in with the 50th anniversary celebrations of project Neptune, which has helped the National Trust protect over 775 miles of coastline.

The money’s in for charity swim

LED are pleased to announce the grand total raised for the Force Cancer Charity Swim in February is over £5,138 with money still coming through!

Earlier this year swimmers across LED's five swimming pools were invited to take part in the Force Cancer Charity Swim where swimmers were asked to take part in either a 14 or 28 mile swim over the course of the month.

Fifty swimmers took part in the challenge to raise money for this local charity that has played a vital role in local cancer services for the last 26 years.

Pedal power with a difference in Exmouth

Pedal power comes to Exmouth later this month as static outdoor dynamo bikes – which can generate enough power to charge up mobile phones - are installed near the seafront.

Exmouth Town Council, East Devon District Council and a local resident have worked together to bring the unique £30,000 exercise bicycles, complete with a shelter, to the town. Not only will the bikes help keep people fit, they will generate electricity too with small lights showing how much power your hard pedalling has produced.

Tidal wave of children sweep through Ocean

LED’s fun-filled family day at Ocean Exmouth on Sunday 5 July was a huge success!

The local community came out in force to support LED when they opened the doors to Ocean on Sunday morning.

Excitement had been mounting all week on social media with hundreds of people on Facebook and Twitter confirming they would be coming along to the fun-filled family day. Entry to the soft play was free all day and visitors were offered a free game of the newly installed Mad Game bowling.

Mystery hole appears on Exmouth beach

A large mystery hole has appeared on Exmouth beach, forcing a section to be closed off.

The hole, which appeared at the eastern end of the beach, near Orcombe Point, was discovered at lunchtime yesterday (2 July) by a member of the public.

The National Maritime Operations Centre sent Exmouth Coastguard to secure the area.

On arrival the Coastguard team found a hole measuring approximately 15ft x 15ft filled with water. The surrounding sand was also soft and fresh holes were appearing nearby.

Exmouth waterfront plans unveiled

An ambitious £18 million development to rejuvenate Exmouth’s waterfront has taken a step forward following a decision by East Devon District Council’s Cabinet (June 17, 2015) to enter into detailed discussions with the preferred developers.

Bournemouth-based Moirai Capital Investments has put forward proposals to breathe new life into the nine–acre council-owned seafront site at Queen’s Drive with a range of exciting leisure facilities. This follows the marketing of the site by Exeter-based property firm, Jones Lang LaSalle, during 2014.

Man arrested after boy approached in West Hill

Police have arrested a man following an incident in East Devon where a schoolboy was approached by the driver of a van.

At around 8.30am on Wednesday 17 June a 13-year-old boy was approached by a man driving a white van, whilst walking to school, at Tipton Cross, on the Exmouth Road in West Hill.

The driver asked the boy if he wanted a lift and drove in front of him, before the boy ran off.

A local man, aged 25, was arrested this morning, Thursday 18 June, on the B3180 at Harps Lane in connection with this incident. He remains in custody at Heavitree Road police...

Stay safe in the water while having fun

“Stay safe in the water” is the message that East Devon District Council is promoting with its Water Safety Day, which is taking place at Beach Gardens (opposite Exmouth Pavilion) in Exmouth, on Sunday 5 July, from 10am to 4pm. Entry is free.

The event, which also involves local water sports companies, clubs and charities, aims to raise awareness of the potential risks involved in water sports, whether at sea or on inland waters, and to get people thinking about keeping safe while having fun.

Celebrating volunteers at A la Ronde

To celebrate National Volunteering week, the team at A la Ronde, the quirky sixteen-sided house near Exmouth, presented three of its 200 volunteers with long service awards.

Peter Mitchell has been filling the house with music by volunteering to play piano on a regular basis, Maureen Cook has spent five years welcoming visitors and explaining about the house as a Room Guide. And Jenny George received a special certificate from the National Trust Director-General Helen Ghosh for 20 years of volunteering at A la Ronde.
