Teenager arrested after fire damages Exmouth bungalow

A 17-year-old boy from Exmouth has been arrested on suspicion of burglary, theft, arson and criminal damage following a fire at a property in Kay Close, Exmouth on Wednesday 7 August. No-one was in the property at the time.

The teenager has been released on police bail until 5 November, to appear at Heavitree Road police station.

The crime number is KE/13/1826.

Exmouth bungalow destroyed by fire

Four fire appliances were mobilised to Kay Close, Exmouth, at 8pm last night following a report of a property fire. On arrival fire crews discovered one domestic bungalow well alight with the fire starting to spread to adjoining properties.

After establishing that everybody had been accounted for, crews used eight breathing apparatus sets, three hose reel jets, two main jets, numerous ladders and roof ladders, a thermal imaging camera and two positive pressure ventilation fans to extinguish the fire.

Police need help in identifying witness to Tiverton fire

Update 5pm: As a result of the earlier appeal, a potential witness has been identified and has spoken to the Police.

Earlier today (25 July): Police are looking to identify a male cyclist (pictured) who is a witness to the house fire at Magnolia Court in Tiverton on Tuesday 23 July.

He cycled past the fire before emergency services arrived, possibly more than once. He may hold vital information.

A joint Police and Fire Service investigation has been launched following a fire that damaged four properties in Tiverton. The fire broke out at Magnolia Court at around 4pm yesterday (Tuesday, 23 July 2013). The fire, which is being treated as suspicious, spread to four properties, causing extensive damage to one house. No-one was injured. A 30-year-old local man was arrested in connection with the incident and was later released on Police bail until 25 September 2013. Summercourt bus station fire could have been deliberate

Following investigations, it is now thought that yesterday morning's fire at the Summercourt area of Cornwall near Newquay may have been started deliberately.

A large number of buses were completely deystroyed by the fire, which is having an impact on the bus service provided in mid-Cornwall however Western Greyhound say they are doing everything they can to prevent disruption to vital services such as school buses. 35 buses were reported to have been destroyed in the fire, however, no people were injured.

Devon & Cornwall Police say that they received a call at 1.17am this morning (3 May 2013) reporting that a number of buses were on fire in the Summercourt area of Cornwall. It is thought that at least 37 buses have been deystroyed by fire, a third of bus firm Western Greyhound's fleet, which will impact on the bus service provided in mid-Cornwall. Sunshine is forecast over the next few days! Every year at this time Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service attends a number of fires caused by the sun’s rays focussing through or onto glass, and then setting fire to nearby objects.

At this time of year the sun is low in the sky, and shines directly through windows, so any mirrored or glass items close to the window may re-focus the sun’s rays onto combustible items, often curtains, heating them up to a point where they spontaneously ignite into flames.

Philpotts and Mosley jailed for Derby fire deaths

Having been convicted of causing the death of six of his children - Jade, 10, John, 9, Jack, 8, Jesse, 6, and Jayden, 5 - in a fire at his Derby house on 11 May 2012, Mick Philpott, 56, has been told at Nottingham Crown Court today that he would serve a minimum of 15 years in prison.

He was convicted of manslaughter along with his wife Mairead and friend Paul Mosley, who were told they would serve half their 17 year sentences.
