Stagecoach celebrates a golden year

Stagecoach South West celebrated the first anniversary of its flagship luxury Stagecoach Gold bus service, which connects Plymouth to the English Riviera on Tuesday (30 September).

Such is the success of this premium bus route that, in May of this year, Stagecoach responded to customer demand by doubling the frequency of buses between Plymouth and Torquay. Buses now run every 30 minutes, Mondays to Saturdays and up to every hour on Sundays.

8 arrested in human trafficking investigation

Eight people have today been arrested after a series of successful warrants were carried out in Plymouth and Cornwall as part of a major investigation into human trafficking and modern slavery. Search warrants were executed this morning, Tuesday 16 September, under the Immigration and Asylum Act at five properties in Plymouth and one address in Bodmin. Police arrested eight people, five women, aged between 26 and 34, and three men, aged between 35 and 37, on suspicion of trafficking people into the UK for the purpose of labour exploitation and on suspicion of money laundering. New use for seized cannabis farm equipment

Researchers at the National Marine Aquarium are set to benefit an after unusual donation from Devon & Cornwall Police. A range of powerful lights, growing trays and other equipment seized from illegal cannabis farms in Devon will now be put to use for growing seagrass, as part of the Community Seagrass Initiative. Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), this three-year project aims to help conserve native seagrass and seahorses, getting the human communities that live around seagrass beds involved with the communities of marine life that thrive on the beds themselves. The Royal Albert Memorial Museum, Exeter and Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery are to be part of a national programme of pioneering collaborations between artists, museums and audiences.

Thanks to major funding support from Arts Council England’s Grants for the Arts programme, New Expressions 3 (NE3) will bring together 15 museums from across England in partnership with the National Trust and the Contemporary Visual Arts Network.

Casitas return to Devon for homecoming gig

Devon’s own success story ‘Casitas’ are back in Devon for a homecoming gig on Friday 18th April at the Tobacco Factory in Exeter.

Casitas, consisting of Barney, James, Ed, Felix and Jack, are returning to Devon after uprooting to London to further their music career.
