Since April 2009 Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service have attended domestic fire incidents causing eight fatalities within the West Devon area. In fact, in the same time period there have been 694 domestic fires in Plymouth, causing not only injury to 50 people, but also immeasurable suffering and disruption to people’s family and personal life.

New premises for leading trade brands

Two of the South West's leading trade brands, MST and Parkins, have moved into new larger premises near Ivybridge following a £250,000 investment by parent company Longhouse Group.

The move to Mill Close on the Lee Mill Industrial Estate sees Parkins, a supplier of tools and equipment to general light industrial businesses, and sister company, agricultural and ground care vehicle specialist MST, occupy a facility twice the size of their previous location.

Time is ticking for South West social ventures to apply to a £600,000 investment and support programme which has been launched by Dartington Trust, Plymouth University and South West Investment Group.

Just days remain for social entrepreneurs to get on to the cutting edge Seedbed programme, which will provide the expertise and finance to help social ventures grow, create sustainable jobs and contribute to the local economy and community.

From diving to mine warfare and nursing to media operations, the Royal Naval Reserve is offering potential recruits the chance to gain an insight into the valuable work of the Navy’s own volunteer force.

Plymouth’s reserve establishment, HMS Vivid, which has volunteers from across Devon and Cornwall, is holding a ‘Live’ event on Wednesday 12 November.
