Blundell’s pupils have spent time during the run-up to Christmas fundraising for charity and having fun at the same time.
The girls in Year 12 of Gorton House sold a record number of 1,400 candy canes, raising £740 for the Crisis At Christmas charity.
Pupils and staff buy the canes to wish their friends and colleagues a Happy Christmas and write a label with a message. In a real team effort, the GH girls then worked as a production line to tie the labels onto the canes, which were then given out to the lucky recipients.
From 5pm until 8pm on 11-13 and 18-20 December, staff and volunteers at Knightshayes Court are hoping to make the festive season extra special by inviting visitors to explore the house and illuminated garden after dark.
They will be able to wander from room to room feeling the warm cheer of a traditional Christmas; and then pop on their woolly hats and snug coats to stroll along the terraces and see parts of the garden transformed into a winter wonderland.
Peta Richards, Visitor Services Assistant, said: “We hope to bring back the magic for families. They can peer at...

Tom Binns, on the other hand, has become famous for simply being someone else. The actor, broadcaster and stand-up comedian became best known in the early naughties as the hapless radio DJ Ivan Brackenbury.
