Christmas Craft Fair

The Donkey Sanctuary in Sidmouth is holding a Christmas Craft Fair on Sunday 30th November from 10am-4pm to raise money for its work worldwide.

Visitors can kick-start their Christmas shopping, or simply indulge themselves from a wide range of crafts and gifts including textiles and handmade jewellery, or tasty artisan treats!

Entry to the Christmas Craft Fair costs just £2 and includes entry to a prize draw. Festive refreshments including mulled wine, mince pies and homemade muffins will be available.

Donkey century for Dorothy!

A donkey-mad grandmother has knitted her 100th toy donkey in aid of The Donkey Sanctuary. Dorothy Harrison, from Beacon Heath, Exeter, started knitting the toys after picking up a knitting pattern on a visit to The Donkey Sanctuary in Sidmouth in 2011 and enjoyed knitting the donkeys so much she set herself the challenge of knitting 100. She says: “I’m quite chuffed really to have done something for something worthwhile. I did the first one and after that I thought, I could do 100 easily.

Halloween Extravaganza

Come and visit the Sanctuary after dark for some spooktastic Halloween fun!

Ghoulish ghost walks are bigger and better than ever this year, with four ticketed walks taking place at 5:15pm, 5:45pm, 6:15pm & 6:45pm. Tickets are £1 per person, and can be purchased from the Events Barn. There is a maximum number of 20 people per walk.

There will also be pumpkin carving, frightening face painting and other awful activities!

Fancy dress welcomed.

Autumn Craft Fair

The Donkey Sanctuary’s popular Autumn Craft Fair is back next Sunday 12th October from 10am to 4pm.

It offers the chance to browse from a huge range of locally sourced, unique and one-off homemade crafts and gifts, from jewellry and clothing to cakes and preserves.

Romanian policeman receives award for donkey rescue

Romanian policeman, Petrescu Vasile from Constanta, received an award through The Donkey Sanctuary’s Romanian project, for recognition of his contribution to animal welfare, after he rescued a severely neglected donkey and informed The Donkey Sanctuary of the animal cruelty he had witnessed. The donkey was found by a roadside in Constanta, collapsed on one side having being repeatedly beaten. He was unable to get up or pull his owner’s cart, with infected wounds on his legs from frequent beatings. The donkey now named Jonny is currently in the care of The Donkey Sanctuary. Wedding licence granted to The Donkey Sanctuary

Couples looking for a truly unique venue for their wedding can now choose to say ‘I do’ at The Donkey Sanctuary, which has this week been awarded a licence to hold weddings and civil ceremonies at its headquarters in Devon.

The charity has a choice of two venues for ceremonies: a formal garden room or the warm and cosy setting of a donkey stable. Secret Mad Hatters Picnic

If you think you can, you should come to the Donkey Sanctuary near Sidmouth and join in our Alice-in-Wonderland themed Mad Hatters tea party picnic!

There will be a prize for the maddest hat!! Purchase a map and picnic from the Hayloft Restaurant and have fun at our secret Wonderland location!

The £5 picnic includes a sandwich, cake, piece of fruit, drink and the special map. Entrance to the Donkey Sanctuary is free.
