As part of its ongoing celebration of 50 years in business, Tiverton-based high-quality sign makers, Ken White Signs (KWS), has given away an array of bespoke marketing material to charities, independent retailers and schools, throughout Devon, as well organising a ‘Gold Pant Mile’ fun-run, raising just over £3,000 for CLIC Sargent. Staff at RMBI Home Cadogan Court in Exeter, have teamed up with The Donkey Sanctuary in Sidmouth, to bring some interesting animals to meet with residents. The donkey handling team brought Willow, the miniature donkey, with them to the care home on Barley Lane on Friday 23 May. Willow has a calm nature and has been trained to go down corridors. He visited residents in different parts of the Home with his handlers, and enjoyed eating ginger biscuits and carrots. The Donkey Sanctuary is welcoming volunteers to its Woodland Management Volunteer Day near Honiton on Saturday 18 February from 10am till 4pm.

Each month the Sanctuary runs wildlife and conservation volunteer days, which include outdoor practical tasks such as gardening, woodland management, hedge planting, willow weaving and the building of bug hotels. This is a fantastic opportunity to meet like-minded people, share and learn skills, and have fun.

The Donkey Sanctuary and World Horse Welfare have swung into action to provide essential food and support to hundreds of donkeys and horses left stranded in heavy snowfall following January’s earthquake in Abruzzo, Italy.

Food is arriving in Abruzzo, Italy to help animals who have been left trapped and starving in snow following multiple earthquakes that took place in January. The Donkey Sanctuary has joined forces with World Horse Welfare to provide food and hay to donkeys, horses and other livestock.

The results of a shocking investigation by The Donkey Sanctuary reveals mass-scale suffering of donkeys caught up in global trading of their skins to sustain the demand for ejiao, a traditional Chinese medicine that relies on gelatin from the hides.

In the first comprehensive study of the trade, the charity has discovered that as many as 10 million donkeys are at risk and it now calls for an immediate halt to the trade until it can be proven to be sustainable and humane.
