Exeter-based world-leading software and services provider Simpleware has added another national accolade to its collection after scooping an IOP Innovation Award.

The award recognises Simpleware’s achievements in developing a computer modelling package that can be used in medical imaging technologies, advance engineering and component design.

It follows hot on the heels of the of the Queen’s Award for Enterprise, which the University of Exeter spin-out business, based in Castle Street, recently won for the second year running.

Simpleware recently launched an updated version of its software solution for the generation of computational models of complex structures and objects from scan images – including mobile phones, car engines and the human body – which assists in the development of products from contact lenses to hearing aids.

More than 90 per cent of sales are to blue-chip companies, research institutes and universities from countries all over the world, including NASA and the US Naval Research Laboratory.

The IOP Innovation Awards recognise companies that have achieved significant commercial success in the area of physics. Representatives from Simpleware will receive the award at a reception in Parliament on Wednesday 6 November 2013.

Commenting on the award, Simpleware’s Founder and Managing Director, Professor Philippe Young, said, “Winning the IOP Innovation Award means a great deal to everyone here at Simpleware. It recognises the industry-wide adoption of the technological solutions Simpleware has been developing and highlights the exciting use of real world physics-based simulation in numerous fields including oil and gas, medical device development and composites.

“Being recognised by such a highly regarded body as the IOP has not only given us all a great sense of pride but has also reinforced our ambitions for continued growth.”

In April this year, Simpleware won the Queen’s Award in the International trade category - recognising companies that have demonstrated growth in overseas earnings. The company has been shortlisted for an Exist Innovation of the Year Award in the Express & Echo’s Business Awards 2013.

In 2012, it was also a recipient of the Queen’s Award for Innovation and the Western Morning News Growth Fund for regional businesses.
