Several members of staff at the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust have been recognised for their exceptional contribution to the hospital and its patients at the winter Extraordinary People Awards.

The seasonal awards are a way of celebrating extraordinary staff that do exceptional things every day and often go above and beyond to provide high quality services. Nominations are made by fellow staff members who want to acknowledge the contribution of an individual or team, and the difficult decision of choosing a winner in each category is undertaken by a panel of judges.

The winter awards ceremony, which was hosted by Trust Chairman James Brent, recently took place at the Wonford hospital. It was attended by staff, Governors and members of the Board, along with the winners of the awards.

The awards categories consist of Excellent Care, Exceed, Exemplar, Extra Mile Individual and Extra Mile Team.

The winter winners include: The Bowel and Bladder Care Service for the excellent care and support they provide for their patients; AMU Health Care Assistant Charlotte Davies for her friendly, outgoing personality and her hard work raising money to buy a new bladder scanner for the unit; Patient Flow Manager Sheila Guinchard who has worked tirelessly to maintain patient flow around the hospital whilst ensuring that patients are in the right place to receive the most appropriate care; Medical Devices Trainer Beverly Williams who has been described as someone with ‘a passion for patient care and endless energy for increasing safety’ and has been instrumental in the Trust becoming a leader in medical devices training compliance levels in the South West; and the Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Team who, after Exeter became a specialist centre for CF care in Devon, have worked hard to change their way of working in order to provide the best possible care for their patients.

James Brent, Chairman of the RD&E, said: “It has been a pleasure and a privilege to hear the inspiring stories of those nominated for our Extraordinary People Awards. As with every round of the awards, choosing the winners has been a very hard task – all the nominations have demonstrated how the RD&E is a place filled with exceptional members of staff who daily go above and beyond to provide high quality care and seamless services for our patients.”
