Runners raise thousands for Hospiscare
Three cheers for the amazing Hospiscare London Marathon runners who have raised a staggering £15,047 with more to come!
Ten people took part in the race, including Liz and Mark Searle, wife and son of Hospiscare founder John Searle and Jon-Paul Hedge, editor of the Express & Echo. Other runners included George Buckley, Sam Downes, Sara Burton, Steve Saunders, Ben Burgoyne, Clare Simpson and Darren Goff.
Jon-Paul said: “It started off well on the first mile and it went down from there. I can’t believe I got overtaken by a man carrying a ladder!
“I’m so grateful to everyone who donated to Hospiscare, including One Voice Media. It looks like at least £2,500 has been raised. What an amazingly positive experience. Once a year is definitely enough, however.”
One of the exciting moments of the day was Mark Searle being interviewed on Radio 2 by Clare Balding. He told the wonderful story of how his dad started Hospiscare and what we do – well done Mark!

Celia Wilkinson, running and challenge fundraiser, said: “Everybody at Hospiscare is so in awe of our runners and their dedication to training and fundraising.
"This is our biggest team and our largest amount ever raised and we are so grateful to them.”
Five of the runners were given spaces through our official golden bond scheme and we will have the same number of guaranteed spaces available next year.
