#10 – England

England are one of the two oldest national teams in football; alongside Scotland, whom they played in the world’s first international football match in 1872. They were World Cup hosts and winners in 1966 and semi-finalists in Italy in 1990, though it’s arguable whether they are still a top ten team in the world right now, even though they’re officially ranked at #10 in the FIFA World Rankings.
Most Capped Player: Peter Shilton, 125 (1970 – 1990)
Top Goal Scorer: Bobby Charlton, 49 (1968 – 1970)

#9 – Spain

2010 World Cup winners Spain are currently ranked number one in the FIFA World Rankings and have always been one of the most exciting teams to watch due to their quick and skillful passing style of play. Despite this, they have only ever reach the top four twice, as semi-finalists in 1950 and winners in 2010.

Although Sweden have never actually won the World Cup, they have appeared in the semi-finals four times, in 1938, 1950, 1958 and 1994, reaching the final in 1968 against Brazil. This record is especially good when you consider that the country, even today, has a population of less than 10 million people.

Their 1998 team is considered to be one of the best in World Cup history with star players such as Zinedine Zidane, Didier Deschamps, Laurent Blanc, Lilian Thuram and Thierry Henry helping them to beat Brazil 3-0 in the final of that year.
