What's wrong with Dragon's Den?
Like many people I quite like the TV programme Dragon's Den - I like the ideas pitched with a sprinkling of adrenaline and the hope. I love the hope. But I really don't like that the contestants (that's what they are, right?) have to persuade individuals, with their piles of money sitting gloatingly on the table in front of them, to patronise their ideas. Really I'd like to see all the contestants have to decide which idea deserves the money - even if it means supporting someone else's idea and not realising their own.
I've always been really interested in collective decision making. I believe that we have an amazing capacity to work together to do things that apart we wouldn't and couldn't have dreamt of doing alone.
Last year I trundled off to London to have a chat with some TV peeps about making a TV show where the participants get to decide how to spend the money. But TV wanted the tears and TV wanted the row and TV wanted the pain. And I didn't.
So back at Kaleider we decided to make it ourselves as a live event. And we'd like to invite you to come and be involved.
There are two ways to get involved.
The most exciting in my opinion is to become a Benefactor by donating some money into the pot. The more you donate the more the group has to spend. Then, as a group of Benefactors you get to decide how to spend the collective pot of money. And if you arrive at a unanimous decision within 2 hours, you get to spend it. If you can't agree then the money rolls over to the next group of Benefactors to have a go.
But if you don't fancy that then you can still get involved by becoming a Silent Witness. Silent Witnesses watch, silently. If you want to voice your opinion you can always buy your way in and influence the decision (so bring at least a tenner in your pocket just in case!). But hurry 'cos there are a limited number of Silent Witness tickets.
All the details are available in the What's On section of this website,
P.S. Shhh don't tell anyone but the 20th has the most money in it so far...
