RD&E’s extraordinary staff recognised
Members of staff who have gone the extra mile for patients have received special recognition at the RD&E’s third annual Extraordinary People ‘Winner of Winners’ awards.
The ceremony was hosted by broadcaster David Fitzgerald from BBC Radio Devon.
The Extraordinary People awards have several categories and celebrate members of staff and volunteers who have been nominated by colleagues or patients for their ability to exceed expectations in delivering high quality care and services.
The awards are run quarterly and at the end of every year there is a special ‘Winner of Winners’ event, where the seasonal winners are nominated again and overall annual winners are chosen for each category.
The celebration event, held at the state-of-the-art Research Innovation Development and Learning (RILD) building on Barrack Road, was attended by scores of staff along with RD&E Governors and Non-Executive Directors.
Our Winners on the night were:
Excellent Care – Rose Brier, Nurse, Torridge
Exceed Award – The Breast Care Team
Extra Mile Individual – Nathan Murphy, PEOC Receptionist
Extra Mile Team – The Tiverton Operational Team
Exemplar Award – The CIVAS Team
Rose Briers also won the People’s Award, which was voted on by staff and Trust Members, the care and compassion she showed whilst caring for a patient at the end of their life.
Volunteer Award – Roger Hunt who volunteers with the Cardiac Rehabilitation Programme.
The evening also saw Chief Executive Angela Pedder, who is soon to take on a role leading the Success Regime in Devon, recognised for her dedication to the Trust for nearly 20 years. Angela was awarded a special Lifetime Achievement Award by RD&E Chairman James Brent and received a standing ovation from the audience.
RD&E Chairman James Brent said: “It is humbling to think that for every nomination we see and for every person awarded, there are hundreds of stories out there every day of staff who show a kindness, who go beyond the call of duty, who have that great idea that really makes a big difference to our patients or to how we work together. That is why, all winners of these annual awards, and the seasonal awards that feed into them, should be seen as representative of an extraordinarily dedicated, hardworking and passionate workforce who, every day, do what they can to ensure that our patients receive the best care possible or who are keen through their own endeavours to make a real difference.”
Many guests Tweeted live from the event to congratulate the winners as they were announced – anyone can catch up with the Tweets and say their own ‘well done’ at @RDEhospital #expeople16
A prize draw was also held in aid of the Exeter Leukaemia Fund’s (ELF) Chevithorne Appeal, with prizes kindly donated by Café Rouge and Bridget Nurseries. Thanks to the generosity of guests over £80 was raised on the night.
