Deadline nears for Devon community project prize

Community organisations across Devon are being reminded that they have just a further three weeks in which to enter the Prince of Wales award, and with it the chance of winning £1,000 to boost their funds.

The Prince of Wales Award is offered annually by the Devon County Agricultural Association for community initiatives in Devon aimed at boosting local sustainability. 

Past winners have included a community-run village shop, village halls, a communal allotment project and a Neighbourhood Health Watch initiative.  The award, which includes a certificate signed by HRH The Prince of Wales, is presented at the Devon County Show, May 19-21.

“It is all about recognising existing projects which improve the quality of life in rural Devon, so helping them to do more, and at the same time using their example to encourage others to follow in their footsteps”, says Richard Maunder, DCAA Chief Executive.

“Year after year, winners of the award have told us what a big difference it has made, not just in boosting funds, but in lifting morale, strengthening credibility and securing existence-affirming recognition.  Even just the process of entering can be enormously beneficial in analysing strengths and weaknesses, and so helping an initiative to develop.

“We’ve already received some excellent entries for this year’s awards, but the more we get, the more good we can do in helping to build stronger, more sustainable communities across rural Devon.”
