Exeter jobs at risk as BHS files for administration
Staff at BHS in Exeter face a worrying future after the company confirmed it has filed for administration.
A total of 11,000 jobs are at risk across the retailer’s 164 stores.
BHS will continue to trade while the administrators, Duff & Phelps, try to find a buyer for part or all of the business.
It is understood any buyer would would have to take on take on its £571m pension deficit.
Last year, BHS was sold by the retail entrepreneur Sir Philip Green for £1. He had bought the chain for £200m in 2000.
Its new owners, Retail Acquisitions, said they would deliver £160m of funding to help turn around the fortunes of the chain, but have not been able to raise the sum.
