An Exeter business has donated funds for essential building work at Child Hope Ministries, an orphanage in Uganda, as it helps put a roof over the heads of the charity’s growing number of vulnerable children.

Exeter-based waste management business Devon Contract Waste connected with the charity three years ago through a mutual friend who volunteered at the orphanage. Since then, the business has helped Child Hope Ministries founder Joram Muwanguzi develop a business plan to generate money, construct a school house, employ a full time teacher, and cover rent during difficult times while land for a new larger children’s home was purchased. Donations have so far exceeded £5,000.

Building has now begun on the new children’s home and Devon Contract Waste has donated vital funds for the building’s new roof. The donation of £1,000 will meet the cost of all roof supports and covering for the new home for 30 orphan children.

Simon Almond, Managing Director at Devon Contract Waste commented: “We are very proud to support Joram and Child Hope Ministries in the work they do to help the children lead a normal life with a solid education. We are receiving regular updates from Joram and it’s exciting to see the project coming together but there’s still a long way to go. We would like to encourage other Exeter businesses to get involved and donate by visiting Child Hope Ministries’ Give A Little webpage.”

Devon Contract Waste will continue to work closely with the charity’s founder to provide a safe home and education to children in the town of Jinja, Uganda, who have lost their parents to HIV/AIDS. The waste management business also supports other charitable projects in Mali and Kibera.

Joram Muwanguzi commented: “Simon and the family at Devon Contract Waste have brought much love from so far away to support our project during some very difficult times. I am very grateful for Simon and the Devon Contract Waste family for helping us achieve all that we have.”
