The Boat Shed Pop Up opens in Exeter
This summer The Boat Shed Pop Up will transform two derelict warehouses on Exeter’s quayside into a new creative venue for the city.
Alongside a programme of theatre, comedy, art and music, The Boat Shed will house a cocktail bar, a goats milk ice-cream parlour and a mini golf course.
Local artist Fi Russell has been commissioned to design the golf course which will be inspired by the stories and heritage of Exeter.
With nine holes to complete, players will be challenged by Exeter’s ancient Roman wall, they’ll skirt around the sleepers of the city’s first railway line and will dodge the witches and muggles that lurk in its alleys - all whilst enjoying an ice cream or sipping on a cocktail.
‘I remember playing mini-golf on holidays with my little brother. We had so much fun and I’m excited to try and re-create that feeling of seaside childhood memories. It’s great to be able to tell the story of Exeter in such a quirky way’ Fiona explained.
David Lockwood, Director of the project, added: ’This is an experiment. We want to test a few ideas and see whether they’ll work. Will people come to see theatre down on the Quay? Will they agree goat’s milk ice-cream is tastier than cows milk? Are mini golf courses for theatres a revolutionary idea or a silly waste of time? The audience’s experience, will directly inform how the building is realised.’
The Boat Shed Pop Up will open this summer until 2 September. For full listings and further information, visit www.bikeshedtheatre.co.uk
