Countdown begins to Radio 1's Big Weekend
Ticket-holders for Radio 1's Big Weekend at Powderham Castle near Exeter have just six days left from today (Monday May 16) to book their transport in advance of the event.
Festival-goers have until May 21 to pre-book transport that’s been specially laid on for the event.
Park and rides, shuttle buses and drop-off/pick-up points have been arranged to get people safety to and from Powderham while ensuring minimum impact on residents and those who may be visiting the area to enjoy the long weekend in this part of Devon.
Transport options include:
- A park and ride at Exeter Racecourse
- A park and ride at Sandy Lane, Dawlish
- A shuttle bus service from Exeter Bus Station
- A pick-up/drop-off point and shuttle bus from Matford
- Pre-booked parking at Powderham Castle
Whatever the choice, people need to be quick as all need to be booked by May 21 2016.
In addition, people can use public transport including buses and trains.
The Big Weekend takes place on 28 and 29 May and 50,000 ticket holders will have the unique opportunity to watch performances by world class bands and artists including Coldplay, Mumford and Sons and Ellie Goulding.
The event is being hosted by Radio 1 DJs and is being delivered in partnership with Teignbridge District Council and Exeter City Council.
Teignbridge District Council Leader Cllr Jeremy Christophers said: “Now that people have got their event tickets in their hands, it’s a great time to plan your travel and pre-book the special event park and rides, or get your public transport sorted. It’ll also take the stress out of the day so you can enjoy all the great artists and bands on the line-up.
“Powderham is a unique location and is going to be a fantastic backdrop for the Big Weekend, but roads are also likely to be busy over the Bank Holiday. To help manage the traffic flow and ensure road safety, people will not be able to stop and drop off or pick up passengers close to the site before or after the event.
“Whether you are local or new to the area, now’s the time to get organised – and then all we need is some sunshine!”
Exeter City Council's Cllr Pete Edwards said that ticketholders only had until Saturday 21 May to book public transport to the event: “Many people will be getting their tickets for the Big Weekend through the post over the coming days but it’s really important that they don’t get caught out without transport to get to and from Powderham.
"The process to book tickets closes very soon, so I would urge all ticketholders to make sure that transport arrangements are in place so that this vital part of the weekend doesn’t spoil their enjoyment of the event.”
