Lifesaving CPR training for Exeter office staff

Retirement and protection specialist LV= has launched a campaign of health advice and training after one of its employees suffered a cardiac arrest.

The campaign, called ‘Staying Alive’, raises awareness of various health issues including CPR which saved the life of Exeter based employee Alan Knight.

Employees in LV=’s Exeter office were shocked to hear that their colleague Alan, a CIO Solution Architect, fell critically ill during one of his long distance runs across Dartmoor in August this year. Known for being active and healthy, Alan needed an incredible 45 minutes of CPR before being airlifted to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

Alan said: “I feel incredibly lucky that paramedics were just two miles away because I wouldn’t be here today without them. Those 45 minutes of CPR kept blood and oxygen flowing to my brain until I was able to make it to hospital. My one wish from this awful experience is for everyone to understand the importance of CPR and how it really can save someone’s life.”

With sessions already held in Exeter on the importance of blood transfusions and organ donation, LV= has also invested in a CPR training kit. The kit can simultaneously train 10 people and starting on Friday 4 December, LV= is expanding the ‘Staying Alive’ campaign and offering CPR training to any of its employees who want to learn the lifesaving skill.
