Exeter project manager completes Dartmoor Classic
Barratt Homes Exeter’s Alun Potter took to the saddle for the Dartmoor Classic cycle ride this week, all in aid of charity.
The technical project manager covered 67 miles in a bid to raise money for Barratt’s nominated charity, the Exeter Foundation.
Providing the city and its surrounding areas with a ‘Civic Trust’, the Exeter Chiefs Rugby Club charity promotes the local community - acting as a fundraising body with a commitment to the future prosperity of the area.
“I’m delighted to have completed this challenge because it was no easy task,” said Alun who had to contend with an early puncture and extremely high temperatures. “With more than 6,000 feet of climbs and 20 percent gradients over the hills of Dartmoor, I knew it was going to be very tough.
“I’ve been cycling regularly for the last year on a hybrid bike bit only upgraded to a ‘proper’ road bike in March - so distance cycling is still relatively new to me. I’ve taken part in a couple of charity cycling challenges before, one from Exeter to Land’s End over two days, and the other between various housing developments in Devon and Cornwall. My fitness levels weren’t quite what they needed to be for these, so I’ve put in lots of miles’ training in the lead up to this one.
“It paid off because I completed the Dartmoor Classic and am pleased to have had the opportunity to raise funds for this very worthy local cause. My colleagues have been very supportive both in terms of sponsorship and encouragement during my training. I’m already thinking about my next challenge!”
Alun has already raised more than £1,100 for charity and anyone wishing to donate to Alun’s fundraising bid can do so by visiting http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/AlunPotter
