20,000 attend Exeter Fanzone
Rugby World Cup 2015 continues to grip the nation with over half a million local and international fans enjoying the Official Fanzones up and down the country to watch live matches and enjoy the excitement of the Tournament.
This is in addition to over one million fans who have already enjoyed the action in venues to date, a figure which is set to double with 2.41 million tickets now sold across the 48 matches.
Rugby World Cup 2015 is on track to be the biggest Rugby World Cup to date, with total match attendance figures surpassing one million, helped by three record-breaking attendances at Wembley, Stadium MK and The Stadium, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The most competitive Tournament to date, it is not just the top teams that are attracting the attention. Playing in front of packed stadia, teams including USA, Georgia, Japan and Namibia have received strong support from rugby fans travelling from across the globe.
The official Fanzones throughout England and in Cardiff have seen fans keen to soak up the match atmosphere and feel part of the international event, with 568,000 visitors to date passing through the doors since opening.
Exeter's Fanzone in Northernhay Gardens has proved popular with nearly 20,000 attendees across the days it has been open.
Manchester is putting the finishing touches to its preparations for hosting England v Uruguay this weekend as it becomes the final Host City to join the celebration of Rugby. Manchester City Stadium has been transformed into a Tournament venue to host the final match in Pool A at 8pm on Saturday (October 10). A Fanzone has been created in Albert Square which will open on Friday (October 9) and will give fans the opportunity to watch all eight matches over the final weekend of the pool phase on two big screens.
England Rugby 2015 Managing Director, Stephen Brown, said: "Not only have we seen fantastic attendance at matches during Rugby World Cup 2015 with over 1 million fans already enjoying great Rugby in our match venues, but the Official Fanzones are proving extremely popular with over half a million fans enjoying the celebration of Rugby up and down the country.”
Fans are being urged to snap up the remaining tickets for Sandy Park via official channels so as not to miss out on the spectacle. Tickets are still on sale for the Italy v Romania match on Sunday 11 October, kick off 2.30pm.
