Countdown to Exeter Really Big Quiz 2017

Exeter chartered accountancy firm Simpkins Edwards is inviting businesses across Exeter to take part in its 14th annual Really Big Quiz. Last year the quiz raised more than £6,000 for the Lord Mayor’s charity and plans are well underway to make this year’s event bigger and better, all in the name of charity.

Taking place at the Corn Exchange on Wednesday 10 May from 6.00pm, the annual Really Big Quiz is an opportunity for local firms to compete for the title of Exeter’s brainiest business.  The event also raises vital funds for the Lord Mayor’s nominated charity Devon Freewheelers, a life-saving charity providing voluntary out of hours transport for the movement of urgent blood samples, whole blood, breast milk, medication and other medical supplies across Devon.

As in previous years, many local firms will be returning to put their wits to the test and to better their rivals.  A total of 57 teams have already signed up leaving just 18 spaces for this fun-filled annual event.

All proceeds from the quiz, auction and raffle will be donated to Devon Freewheelers. It is hoped that this year’s event will surpass the all-time record of £8,141 raised in 2015. So far, auction lots and prizes include: a 48-hour test drive in the new Mazda MX5 RF, two tickets to the Mitsubishi 7s tournament at Sandy Park on 15 and 16 July, a cask of Ale courtesy of The Exeter Brewery as well as a tour of the brewery for up to 20 people, two half day vouchers with the Exeter Cookery School, a framed painting of the Guildhall by Jo Mortimer, a signed Exeter City football shirt and a signed Exeter Chiefs rugby ball.  Many more items have been kindly donated and further generous items are welcome.

The winners of the quiz will receive a trophy and case of champagne; there are also prizes for second and third places. Last year 73 teams competed in the event and, together with money raised from entry fees, auction bids and raffle tickets, £6,411 was raised on the night for charity.

John Coombs, partner at Simpkins Edwards, commented: “The Really Big Quiz is a hugely entertaining evening that raises a great deal of money for good causes each and every year.  The quiz puts the best brains in Exeter to the test and with the help of the redoubtable raconteur James Morrish from Kivells, we regularly raise thousands of pounds from the auction of amazing experiences and items.  It’s a highlight of the business calendar and we’d encourage businesses to register before it’s too late.”

To register a team, email sroberts@simpkinsedwards.co.uk, call 01392 211233 or visit www.simpkinsedwards.co.uk to download an entry form. The entry fee is £50 per team and each team can have up to five members. The fee includes a light buffet and a licenced bar is available (although not included in the entry fee). Doors open at 6.00pm, ready for the quiz to begin at 7.15pm.
