Former Hospiscare chairman wins lifetime achievement award

The massive contribution of former Hospiscare Chairman Patrick Beasley was dramatically recognised this week as he won the prestigious Anne Norfolk Lifetime Achievement Award.

Patrick, who retired as Chairman of Hospiscare in September received the special glass award at a conference in Liverpool on Wednesday 16th November. This is the sixth year of the award programme. The award was given to Patrick in recognition of his outstanding service to the hospice movement both nationally and internationally.

Patrick joined Hospiscare in 2007 following a distinguished career as an ENT consultant and medical director. He was a trustee of Hospice UK for four years from 2012 to 2016, chairing their Governance committee. He is Chairman of Butterfly Children’s Hospices which run two hospices in China. He was appointed President of the board of Hospiscare in October.

During his seven years as Hospiscare’s Chairman from 2009, the number of patients being supported by the service increased by 26%. Hospiscare now reaches over 2,000 patients every year. Furthermore, the money, raised and spent, to support this growth has increased from £4.5 million to £8 million per year.

Hospiscare Chief Executive Glynis Atherton praises Patrick’s record: “His warm and generous personality, indefatigable energy and his delight and interest in every individual, patient, volunteer or staff member, means that he is well-known and respected throughout the charity and the locality,” she says. “He is a strong supporter of the fundraising and retail teams and a committed attender of events come rain or shine”.
