The busy restaurant at Otter Nurseries in Ottery St Mary has been awarded the highest rating by the Food Standards Agency in its most recent inspection.

With over 280 covers, the restaurant serves hundreds of hungry customers every day using fresh ingredients from approved local suppliers.

Restaurant Manager Anthony Adams, said: “In a big kitchen like ours there is a lot to keep on top of in terms of hygiene.

“We work extremely hard to achieve the highest of standards, including staff training. It applies to me too - I recently attended a four-day course in Exeter to take Food Hygiene Level 3.”

The food hygiene rating scheme helps the public choose where to eat out by providing information on hygiene standards in an establishment. To achieve a five rating, the restaurant had to meet all the criteria in the three categories, which include food handling and preparation, the cleanliness and ventilation of the building and what a business does to ensure food is safe to eat.

As the Otter Nurseries restaurant gets ever busier from now until Christmas, customers can rest assured that food hygiene standards will be maintained at the same level that achieved the award.
