Mum of two Sharon Clegg, from Newton Abbot scooped a £50 shopping voucher in a competition organised by Teignbridge.

She won the voucher in a prize draw for people who completed Teignbridge’s annual housing survey. The survey aimed to find out how people feel about the new affordable homes they live in.

By asking people who have moved into affordable homes in new developments, Teignbridge can better understand what it's like to live there. Questions ask what its like to find a new home, about moving, the home itself, its location, transport in the area, the landlord and how satisfied residents are overall.

Sharon explained how she came to live in her new home: "Before I moved into my new home, I was expecting a baby and living in temporary accommodation with my daughter Lauren. Teignbridge District Council and Devon Home Choice helped me so that I quickly found a home which I can afford, to call my own.

"I filled in the online form and my application was assessed. After a few months, I was offered a home to rent.

"We moved in to our new home on the 1st December, just after my daughter Gracie was born on 23rd November 2013.

"Living here has made a big difference to our lives.  We have really settled in and we enjoy living here. It’s a comfortable, modern home, with a nice garden for my family to enjoy.

"Gracie’s just enjoyed her second birthday and we're looking forward to our second Christmas living here.

"For anyone else looking for an affordable home, I would recommend using Devon Home Choice to register your details."

llr Humphrey Clemens, Teignbridge District Council’s Executive Member for Planning and Housing said: "Providing homes which residents can afford to live in is a priority for Teignbridge.  We asked residents how they feel about their homes, their landlords and the surrounding areas to help us improve new affordable housing planned for Teignbridge, and to better meet people's needs in the future.

“Many thanks to all those who completed the questionnaire, and congratulations to Sharon for winning."

Teignbridge works with Housing Associations and developers to build new affordable homes for people who need them. There are currently around 1,900 registered households who need affordable homes in the district.  Newly available affordable housing schemes include Haydon Court (Extra Care), within ‘the Buntings’ in Dawlish, and rural schemes such as Broadhempston.
