Human remains found in search for missing Exeter woman

Police searching for missing Exeter woman Gergana Prodanova have today [16 August] recovered human remains from an area of Exeter.

At around 4pm on Tuesday 16 August police conducted a search of waste ground off Blackall Road.

As a result of this search, forensic officers recovered human remains from the scene.

A full forensic post mortem will now be undertaken to confirm the identity of the body however Gergana’s family in Bulgaria has been notified.

A major investigation is being carried out into the disappearance of the 38-year-old Bulgarian woman who was reported missing by colleagues on Monday 8 August after she failed to turn up for work over the weekend of 6-7 August. She was last seen in Sidwell Street, Exeter on 4 August.

Detective Superintendent Paul Burgan said: “Enquiries will continue in the Polsloe and Blackall Road areas of the city over the next few days and police would like to thank the public for their continued co-operation with this investigation.”

Kostadin Kostov, aged 42 and from Exeter, has been charged with the murder of Gergana Prodanova and appeared before Exeter Magistrates’ Court on Monday [15 August]. He has been remanded to appear before Exeter Crown Court in September
