A weather warning for ice has been issued for Devon by the Met Office.

Scattered showers are expected to move into the region later today, which could be heavy and wintery showers over high ground.

Clear spells between the showers will allow temperatures to fall below freezing tonight, leading to an increased risk of ice forming on untreated surfaces.

The warning is valid from 8pm tonight (Thursday) until 10am tomorrow.

The regional five day forecast is as follows:

Today:
After a cold and frosty start to the day, it'll be mostly dry and bright, with sunny spells. However, there will be some scattered showers around, which could be heavy and possibly wintry over the Moors. Staying rather cold. Maximum Temperature 8°C.

Tonight:
Further scattered showers tonight, possibly wintry over the Moors . Elsewhere, mostly dry with clear spells, a widespread frost and the risk of icy patches. Minimum Temperature -2°C.

Friday:
Cloud and rain, heavy at times, will be moving east during the day, with gales around exposed coasts and hills. Turning milder, with temperatures recovering to near normal. Maximum Temperature 10°C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:
Wet and windy on Saturday and Sunday, with gales in places, but feeling much milder. Turning colder again during Monday with scattered showers, these possibly turning wintry over the moors.
