IKEA jobs up for grabs at new Exeter Jobs Fair
IKEA is among some of the city’s best-known and largest employers who are taking part in a major new jobs fair next month.
Around 70 employers are expected to exhibit at the Exeter Jobs Fair at the Corn Exchange on September 15.
To support the city’s rapidly-growing economy, Exeter City Council and Exeter Jobcentre Plus have joined forces to host a free, twice-yearly jobs fair.
It aims to ensure that employers can fill current and future vacancies quickly, with the right candidates.
As well as IKEA, those already signed up to the event include Exeter College Apprenticeships, Princesshay Exeter, Lidl UK, Toys''R''Us, Sitel - Exeter, NHS, AnTech, Hays, Vision-4-U, Royal Mail and Horizon Care South West Ltd.
IKEA has invested £80 million in its new Exeter store near Sandy Park, which will create 350 new jobs. All IKEA co-workers will be paid the Real Living Wage and will also receive a benefits package including an annual bonus and a pension loyalty scheme.
Cllr Rachel Sutton, Lead Councillor for Economy & Culture, welcomed the council’s new partnership with the Jobcentre.
She said: “It’s great to be working with Job Centre Plus in Exeter to establish a regular jobs fair in the city, which is free for businesses to attend.
“Exeter is the fourth fastest-growing economy in the UK, so we need to work in partnership with businesses in the city to ensure vacancies are filled swiftly.”
The free-to-attend jobs fair will provide businesses with the perfect opportunity to recruit permanent, temporary or seasonal staff across all roles and all sectors, including: administration, care, construction, customer service, hospitality, manufacturing and retail.
Jobseekers – and those looking to change career – do not need to book in advance and can simply turn up on the day.
Anyone registered with Job Centre Plus can contact their case worker for more information and support.
Exeter City Council, the Greater Exeter Employment & Skills Board and Jobcentre Plus will be on hand during the day to provide advice and guidance to employers and prospective candidates.
Lee Tozer, Partnership Manager at Jobcentre Plus, said: “The Jobs Fair is a great example of Exeter City Council and Exeter Jobcentre working together.
“It provides an excellent opportunity for all jobseekers to meet and talk to employers who have vacancies. I think that the Jobs Fair and the support in the Jobcentre will help people fulfil their ambitions and move into work.”
The Exeter Jobs Fair is being held on Friday, September 15, at Exeter Corn Exchange, Market Street, Exeter, from 9.30am to 2pm.
