Established in 1923 by Lorenz Wagner, LOWA started out as a small Bavarian manufacturer of Oxford Brogue shoes. Handcrafting their footwear using the Norwegian welt-stitch, by the end of the decade LOWA’s reputation had grown to the point where supply could no longer meet demand and their manufacturing facility had to expand. Jump forward to the present day and the brand’s growth has lost none of its momentum. Having shifted their focus from formal shoes to more practical footwear during the 1960’, the 1970s and the 1980s, LOWA’s use of the latest innovations have led to them becoming a world-renowned brand whose military boots are worn by security forces and armed forces personnel across the globe.

From the use of high-quality materials to the implementation of unrivalled manufacturing techniques, there is a lot that makes LOWA military boots special but it’s the amalgamation of various advanced technologies that make them truly stand out. Chosen for their ability to work effortlessly in unison with one another, the technologies employed by LOWA are state-of-the-art and afford their boot’s wearers a myriad of benefits; from enhanced comfort and breathability to full waterproofing and damage-resistance.

Collaborative Technologies found In LOWA Boots

Footwear can be enhanced with all sorts of features these days, but if they are too uncomfortable to wear then all the work that has gone into them is essentially wasted. LOWA understand this all too well and strive to strike the perfect balance between function and comfort. The individual technologies implemented by LOWA aim to do very much the same, with many actively improving comfort in addition to providing other practical benefits.

GORE-TEX® Extended Comfort Footwear

One of several GORE-TEX® membranes found in LOWA Military boots, GORE-TEX® Extended Comfort Footwear Technology is extremely versatile and well-suited for a variety of applications. Suitable for indoor or outdoor activities, these membranes are waterproof and resilient to damage yet also breathable, making them comfortable for use throughout the day. Shoes and boots with GORE-TEX® Extended Comfort Footwear technology are perfect for temperate to warm climates and are equally suited for sports as they are casual use.

 GORE-TEX® Performance Comfort Footwear

A robust alternative to the Extended Comfort membrane, GORE-TEX® Performance Comfort Footwear technology is billed as an All-Season solution and has been designed to excel in outdoor environments. Completely Waterproof and highly breathable, boots with a GORE-TEX® Performance Comfort membrane offer a reasonable degree of insulation to ensure their wearer’s feet are kept warm in cold, Winter conditions.

Vibram® Outsoles

Inventors of the first rubber lug sole in 1937, Vibram® has grown into a global brand that specialises in the manufacture of rubber outsoles. Many LOWA boots benefit from Vibram® soles, from the LOWA Renegade with the Vibram® "Vialta" to the LOWA Elite Jungle boots with the Vibram® “Aconcagua”. Vibram® soles boast numerous beneficial properties and will suit almost any requirements, making them the perfect complement for LOWA who strive to ensure there is a boot for everybody within their range.

Cambrelle® Lining

Cambrelle® considers itself to be ‘THE’ Comfort Lining, which ought to tell you everything you need to know about this synthetic fabric. LOWA footwear with a Cambrelle® lining are designed for long-term use and should be considered the boots of choice for anybody who regularly goes hiking, trekking or mountaineering. Capable of keeping feet dry and cool throughout the day,  Cambrelle® Lining is durable and abrasion-resistant thereby ensuring its longevity.

Courdura Fabric Uppers

Often used in conjunction with other upper materials, CORDURA® fabric is frequently utilised in LOWA boots as it complements the properties of various types of leather; including full grain, suede, and nubuck. CORDURA® fabric is resistant to tears, abrasions, and punctures, not to mention the fact that it’s lightweight and is treated using water and flame-repellant coatings. These are just a few of the reasons why CORDURA® fabric is considered the ideal material for LOWA military boots.

LOWA-Exclusive Technologies

With almost a century of experience behind them, it should come as no surprise that LOWA have invested a great deal into R&D. LOWA-exclusive technologies work hand-in-hand with those from third parties in order to provide those finishing touches that are the difference between an extraordinary boot and one that is truly unique.

I-Core Sole Insert

‘I-Core’ is a carbon fiber-based technology inserted into the soles of LOWA boots to give them both enhanced strength and greater flexibility. In addition to the positive effect this has on a boot’s durability and lifespan, I-Core technology also improves shock-absorption and the wearer’s comfort.

I-Lock Cam Lace Loops

Positioned at the top of the foot, I-Lock cam loops are designed to guarantee laces do not slip or loosen once they have been tied. Boots with I-Lock tech support feet by holding them firmly in place, but the cam loop’s placement on a boot’s lower-shaft allows for flexible lacing further above. Moreover, their innovative design allows a boot’s owner loosen the clamping mechanism as and when they feel the need to adjust their laces.

Monowrap® Frame

Lightweight and supportive,  Monowrap® Frames provide additional stability and contribute to a boot’s overall ability to absorb shocks from every step that is taken. Made from hardwearing materials that will withstand the test of time, LOWA boots with a Monowrap® Frames are perfect for long walks over rough, uneven terrain.

Climate Control System

Protection against blisters is an important feature for any boot, which is why LOWA have created their very own Climate Control System that enables air to enter a boot and circulate freely. As the wearer walks, heat and moisture are pushed out and actively drawn away from the foot. This helps to helps to keep feet as dry and cool as possible, thereby reducing the prevalence of ‘hot spots’ and warding against fatigue.
