Fans of the Judi Spiers show have lambasted BBC Radio Devon’s managing editor following a formal statement he posted on Facebook.

Three days after listeners were shocked to hear the star was departing (tomorrow) Mark Grinnell has issued a statement saying the decision wasn’t taken lightly.

However, in just a couple of hours, more than 220 posts have been published, the vast majority of them ripping into the station boss.

Typical of them, was Andrew Jones who wrote: “As an explanation that is so feeble and an insult to both the intelligence of Judi and her audience.

“She is one of the best presenters on air in the UK who connects with, entertains and informs her audience like no other.

“I say that as a loyal listener over many years and someone lucky enough to once set up and manage a small local radio station. No one in their right minds would dispense with talent like Judi. Shameful‬.”

Pam Ley added: “I'm not a great judi Spiers fan however I'm still leaving radio devon! I liked Matt Woodley, and have tolerated the time since he left hoping I might eventually take to Simon Bates.

“I haven't and the 'Local knowledge' element has disappeared. This obvious total disregard for what listeners want has meant our Radio Alarm has now been tuned to Voice, which actually caters for North Devon. Bye bye!”
