LHC team go the extra miles for charity
In a true test of team endurance, a group of cyclists from LHC Architecture + Urbanism have clocked up over 2,000 miles in order to raise more than £2,500 for Balloons bereavement charity.
The team of twenty-one tackled the Devon Coast to Coast cycling challenge on September 10th and 11th, climbing over 4,000 feet and each cycling 100 miles across the two days.
Setting off from Ilfracombe on Saturday, the team was led by Directors Rob Bramhall, Graham Devine, Mark Daley and Urban Design Director Paul Osborne, completing the challenge on Sunday in Plymouth.
Several of the LHC team also took part in the Michelmores Charity 5k Run, also in aid of Balloons. The event, now in its 17th year, saw over 1,000 runners hit the streets of Exeter on 8th September to fundraise for the charity.
LHC Director Rob Bramhall said: “At LHC we do our best to raise money for a different charity each year and this year we chose to support Balloons. It’s a fantastic charity that provides support for children and young people who are dealing with one of the most difficult things we all experience at some point, the loss of someone significant.
“We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has sponsored us and helped us reach above and beyond our target. Most of our team are not regular cyclists so it was a challenging couple of days but definitely worth the aching bodies for such a worthy cause!”
Balloons, or ‘Bereavement and Loss Looking Onwards’, provides pre and post bereavement counselling to children, young people and their families. The charity aims to ensure that no child or young person is denied support to work through their grief, offering a wide range of practical, emotional and social support and guidance to young people and those supporting them.
Sara Bennett, Balloons CEO, commented: “What the LHC team have done to raise money for Balloons is incredible. We are so grateful to them and know that all the money they raise will help children, young people and their families when they are at their most vulnerable.”
In 2015 LHC Architecture supported The Dame Hannah Rogers Trust through riding a similar cycling challenge raising over £3,000.
